Body to Body or Nuru: The Difference Is One Material

People book one meaning the other. The two techniques share a method and differ in a single substance, and that substance decides how the hour behaves from the first minute to the last.

Both are full contact. Both replace hands with the length of a body. The difference is what sits between the two skins.

Oil absorbs. Gel does not.

Warm oil goes into skin. That is what it is for. Twenty minutes in, the surface has taken most of it and drag returns, so an oiled session keeps coming back to the hands to renew itself. Those returns are not interruptions. They are the rhythm of the oil forms: broad contact, a pause at the hands, broad contact again.

Nuru gel is seaweed-based and refuses to absorb. It sits on the surface for the length of the hour. Contact, once made, is never re-established, because it is never lost. A therapist can travel from shoulder to heel and back without a single break in the surface.

That is the entire distinction. Everything written about nuru follows from a gel that will not sink in.

What each one feels like

Oil has texture. There is friction, and friction is legible. You can feel where a forearm is, where it is going, when it changes direction. The work is readable.

Gel removes that. With friction gone you stop being able to track the contact. Weight arrives, moves, and you lose the edge of it. People describe nuru as disorienting more often than they describe it as intense. That is accurate. It is a technique that removes information.

Neither is stronger. Body to body gives you a massage you can follow. Nuru gives you one you cannot.

What each one asks of the room

Oil needs a bed and towels. Gel needs a waterproof surface, a shower afterwards, and more time at both ends.

Since we work outcall only, this matters more than it would in a studio. A hotel bathroom with a decent shower makes nuru straightforward. A room with a hip bath and no floor space makes it awkward. Body to body has no such requirement and goes anywhere there is a double bed. If you are choosing while uncertain about the room, the oil form is the safe one and loses you nothing.

Cost and duration

They are not priced apart. One hour is one hour, whichever material is in the bag. The ladder runs from an hour to an eight-hour overnight and the technique never moves it.

Duration behaves differently, though. Nuru at sixty minutes spends a real share of the hour on the gel going on and the shower coming off. Body to body at sixty minutes is sixty minutes of work. If you want to try gel, ninety is the honest minimum. If you want an hour that is all massage, book oil.

Which to choose

  • No experience of full contact: body to body, ninety minutes.
  • You want what gel does, and the room has a proper shower: nuru, ninety minutes or two hours.
  • Booked for one hour and unsure about the bathroom: body to body.
  • You want the room used rather than avoided: soapy, which is a third answer entirely.

The confusion between these two is old and mostly harmless. They came from the same place. Bath-house practice in Japan and Thailand worked full contact for a century before Europe had a word for it, and the practice split along exactly this line: one branch kept friction, the other erased it. Oil is the first branch. Nuru is the second.

Both are worked by the same forty-five therapists, at any hour, at the same flat rate. Choose the material, then the duration. Nothing else about the booking changes.
