Soapy massage in Amsterdam: foam, water, body to body.
Book soapy massage to an Amsterdam hotel suite or short-stay apartment with a proper tub or walk-in shower; the mat and the soaps come to the door.
Thailand turned washing into bodywork, and soapy massage is what came of it. Warm water, thick lather, and hands and body moving over every surface in one long pass. The bathroom is the room it belongs in.

THEtechnique
Bangkok's bath houses formalised soapy massage in the mid-twentieth century, and Japan's soaplands arrived at much the same thing independently. The premise in both places was that washing a person properly is already bodywork. Lather only made it possible to do it slowly. Foam solved a practical problem as well. Lather spreads weight more evenly than bare skin, so a therapist standing upright can lean her whole body against a standing guest without either of them slipping or catching.
It begins standing, under running water. Upright, the therapist can lean her weight against you with the floor taking the load rather than her arms. Lather is laid on thick and renewed as it thins, because the work stops the moment skin begins to grip. It finishes rinsed, dried and horizontal. The sequence runs in three stages. Standing, lather is built and the body washed in long vertical passes. Kneeling on the mat, the work turns to the back and shoulders with more of her weight behind it. Lying down, on the mat or on the bed once you are dried, it becomes body to body in the ordinary sense.
On the night
It begins standing, under warm water, with lather worked across the shoulders and down. Foam does what oil does and more: nothing catches, nothing drags, and the therapist's own body carries the pressure. The work moves from vertical to horizontal as the session goes on. The final stretch of the hour is kept for a slow rinse under the shower and a stack of fresh towels. Before the water runs, she checks the temperature with you and lays the mat. Towels go on the heated rail if the bathroom has one. Each transition, from standing to kneeling to lying, is signalled with a hand instead of a word, so no instruction ever interrupts the flow.
Who takes it
Rooms with a real bathroom, and guests who would rather be warmed into looseness than pressed into it. Also guests who prefer a bath to a massage table, and anyone who wants to feel entirely clean and warm before a late dinner or an early flight.
What it leaves
Skin that feels scrubbed and soft, and a looseness that arrives through heat rather than force. Most people sleep heavily afterwards.
- 60 min
- 90 min
- 2 hours
Sixty minutes is enough for one full pass. Ninety and two hours allow the work to move out of the bathroom, which is where it opens up.
The rate is the same at every one of these lengths, and the same at every hour of the night. Length is the only thing a first message has to settle.
SETTLINGthe fee
This technique is billed at the hourly figure shown on the profile of whoever takes the booking. No night rate, no weekend rate, no travel charge anywhere inside the ring, and no addition at the door.
